I'm saving on makeup and skincare products

October 27th, 2008 at 04:41 pm

I've worn Mary Kay products since I was 17 years old. I've loved their makeup, skincare, and even perfumes for years. However, while evaluating my financial priorities and needs and wants, I'm staying focused on what is real important.

Yes, I need makeup, pretty skin, and to smell good, but also I need to re-evaluate if I can get all those things and save money too. I can and have!

Thank God I've found alternative products that I am happy with that have saved me a fortune. You know every penny really does count. I don't think my face and body knows the difference. They're just happy someone takes the time to care. Thank you Wal-Mart and Sally's Beauty Supply!

What changes have you made to save money on makeup and skincare products?

i use clinique foundation which is $48 a bottle (bottle lasts about 5 months) from the counter. but on ebay I can get it, posted, for $32.
i have never bought mascara - i usually buy a magazine as a treat for myself when there's a free mascara attached to it - when i need it. so technically mascara: $7. i also get lipgloss in the same way.
i use a vitamin e moisturising cream that is $4.95 from the chemist - i initially bought it for my tattoos but ran out of moisturiser for my face so used it one day - and never looked back!
hmmm. what else? i use a nutrogena scrub twice a day that's $13 (lasts about 2 month), and a mineral loose powder that is $20 (lasts about 4 months). overall i don't think i need to cut back on anything.

I love Mary Kay products also and have used them since I was 19. I believe in their product and liked them so much that I become a personal use consultant, just to get the 50% off. If you change your mind and want to get a discount, just let me know. I will help you get signed up.

I'm not brand loyal, so I just use coupons at Walgreens or K-Mart (when they double coupon) to get it free or nearly free. Last night a lady in line in front of me got $45 worth of make-up at K for $0.18 (double coupons).

This is one place where I hardly ever spend money. Though I do like the foundation that Mary Kay offers, I hate paying the price or dealing with the sell aspect. I tend to shop at Walgreen's and CVS for Covergirl mascara and the cheapest lipstick and lip gloss I can find. I use simple things like baby oil (makeup remover) and vaseline (makeup remover) and oatmeal scrubs using oatmeal from my pantry. I tent-steam my face with a towel over a sink of hot water every now and then. I buy body butter from the dollar store. (Found a Lily Cotton Field scent that I love!) Currently for my face, I use the Oil of Olay line of products (face cleanser, moisturizer, on sale) but that could change. I've never been brand loyal or beautiful, but I've always been budget conscious!
